What is SAP AI and agentic AI for integration?
SAP AI for integration applies machine learning and generative AI to building and running integrations. Today that includes mapping proposals in Integration Advisor and GenAI-based integration flow drafting in premium editions. Agentic AI is the next step: AI agents that investigate failures and propose fixes, with humans approving changes under normal governance.
It helps to separate design time from run time. At design time, AI shortens the path from requirement to a first draft: describe a scenario and receive a draft iFlow, or accept suggested field mappings. At run time, AI helps operators understand failures faster, for example by summarising a pattern of errors and pointing to the likely cause.
| Area | What AI does | What people still do |
|---|---|---|
| Mapping | Proposes field mappings | Validate every mapping |
| Flow design | Drafts an iFlow from a description | Apply standards, review, test |
| Operations | Triages and explains failures | Approve fixes, own outcomes |
Agentic AI goes further, with agents that carry out multi-step tasks such as gathering logs, testing a hypothesis and preparing a change. The governing principle does not change: AI output passes through the same change control, testing and audit trail as human work, and sensitive payloads stay within approved data boundaries.
Good foundations, consistent naming, standard error handling and clean monitoring data, are what make AI useful. Read the full guide to SAP AI for integration.
